Dear athletes, friends from the international wushu family,
As we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the International Wushu Federation, I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to you, for reaching this important milestone for your sport.
You can look back with pride on your many achievements and developments, which already begun under your past president, my dear colleague and friend Mr. Yu Zaiqing. You have taken the great tradition of Chinese martial arts and brought it into the modern age, making wushu a sport with a truly global appeal today.
This extraordinary growth and development is no coincidence. It is the result of the unwavering commitment and constant work of the International Wushu Federation under the able leadership of President Gou.
You have always understood how to embrace change by continuing to develop sport in innovative ways, and to promote the role of sport in society.
This is why my thanks and gratitude go to the wushu family around the world for everything you do to spread our shared Olympic values of excellence, friendship, respect, and solidarity.
As you celebrate this important milestone today, you have every reason to be proud. And you have every reason to look to the future with great confidence. Because with the addition of Wushu on the program of the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026, the next milestone is already on the horizon.
In this Olympic spirit, I wish you all the very best for at least the next 30 years and beyond.
